Washington’s New Protection Order Law: Understanding RCW 7.105 (Legal Lunchbox™ Series October 2022)

  • ON-DEMAND SEMINAR

Presented in collaboration with the WSBA Pro Bono and Public Service Committee

Prior to the enactment of RCW 7.105, there were separate laws governing Washington's six civil protection orders - Domestic Violence, Vulnerable Adult, Anti-harassment, Sexual Assault, Stalking and Extreme Risk. RCW 7.105 codifies these orders and their proceedings in a single chapter, reconciling inconsistencies that created complexity, produced barriers to access, and limited available relief by the courts. This session will provide a basic overview of the new civil protection order statute addressing legislative intent, definitions, jurisdiction/venue, proceedings, and remedies.
